PRESENTATION DETAILS

Obscure Social Security Rules That You Should Know - Zoom

Norm Haug, Vice President of Operations - Registered Social Security Analyst®

9:40 to 11:10 a.m.

Certain Social Security program rules include quite obscure details that can either surprise retirees when they are affected by them or, in some cases, be a relief to discover that there is a solution to their problem. These include details about the earning’s test, pensions, withdrawing an application, voluntary suspension, and overpayments. Even the basic details about dependent benefits are frequently misunderstood. Attend this event to gain valuable insights to navigating the Social Security claiming decision with confidence.

Learning objectives:

After attending this presentation, you will be able to:

·        Recall the causes and critical actions to take if the SSA sends an overpayment bill.

  • Select when and how the withdrawing of an application & voluntary suspension can be beneficial to retirees collecting Social Security.
  • Identify the amount of Social Security benefits that will be withheld due to the earnings test for a specific case example.

Norm Haug is Vice President of RSSA Operations at the National Association of Registered Social Security Analysts (NARSSA), a WealthTech company that provides a comprehensive Social Security eLearning platform for professionals to earn the RSSA designation. An RSSA has the expertise to advise clients on filing strategies and the many rules that govern Social Security. NARSSA also provides back-office support and technology focused on optimizing Social Security benefits. As an RSSA, Norm helps future retirees optimize their Social Security benefits with enhanced strategies worth thousands of dollars. His responsibilities at NARSSA involve oversight of the client experience and the development of the RSSA Roadmap, NARSSA’s proprietary Social Security analytical software. Prior to joining RSSA, Norm was EVP of Strategic Alliances at Newtek Business Solutions, General Manager of PNC Bank’s merchant alliance and COO of JPMorgan Chase’s merchant alliance with First Data, now Fiserv. Norm holds a degree in Marketing from Hofstra University and served on the board of the American Red Cross of Long Island where he resides with his wife and children.

Investment Protection SIG – ZOOM
Clark Mills, SIG Leader
12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

Personal Finance & Retirement Income SIG – In-person

Urban Adams, SIG Leader

1:15 to 2:15 p.m.

Due to greater uncertainties, financial planning after retirement becomes more challenging.  We all want to make good decisions.  Where most investors get into trouble is not in their intent, it’s in their emotions and habits.  The SIG's focus is educating members how-to make informed financial decisions which are in their best interests.
