When I opened my Traditionsl IRA my wifebandbI sat down with punt represeb
ntative from TDAmeritrade. Sinc we were new we decided to have Concervative portfolio that the brokerage set up . This is a select portfolio for any investor .Not a one of a kind. The fees are at based on the size of the portfolio. I s managed by the brokerage firm. The funds were invested in ETFs in a conservative portfolio. The fees are charged quarterly. We can take our RMd anytime we want. The brokerage decides how much is invested in each fund. We can also request withdrawal snytimd for any amount at no extra charge. We get statements monthly. We can change our allocation and choose a different risk tolerance at any time.. we chose this so we could see what and how they do things. These devious were done before I started my AAII membership.

    Hi John,

It sounds like you have a solid plan in place to manage your portfolio and overall risk tolerance. Curious about how you've reacted to stock market corrections and bear markets in the past? Did you find yourself being more fearful or confident than you first thought you would be? How has your risk tolerance changed over the years - has it fluctuated or been consistent?

    Have a wonderful weekend!

      Jenna and PRiSM group friends:
Let me start by saying that this IRA is all ETFs. No individual stocks. It is set as a conservative portfolio. T is professionally managed so I don't worry too much. When I look at the holdingsIxrarelynsee more than one ETF with a negative gain percentage for the yesr.. My philosophy is that I try not to worry about any of my holdings. I manage my non IRA portfolio. I use the AAII model portfolios as my guidance. I also follow the sectors. I group my holdings by sector and try to use a weighted percentage for each, if I feel that my percentage is too high I look at my individual holdings first . I try to see their charts, news, guidance by raters, the AAII  information, etc. I buy Sector ETF from Vanguard. unless AAII has something different that I do not already own. I buy enough to get the percentage where I need it. I try to buy during the dips. For me the bear market in March was  buying opportunity.

Thanks so much for sharing John! Sounds like we have similar, conservative portfolio approaches that focus mostly on ETFs. It's great to hear that you're utilizing our model portfolios and other resources. In the New Year, what approaches do you plan to take considering risk tolerance? Will you be changing anything or keeping everything the same?

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and weekend!
