Hi Everyone,  as a holder of many ETFs I am interested in knowing how concentrated I am in any particular stock held by one or more of my ETFs.  They all have positions in the big stocks, I just don't know overall how much of each stock I own via the ETFs.  Is there an app or program that will analyze and itemize all of the various ETF holdings into one grand list?

Hi John! Spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets can do this for you, but you'll need to enter all the ETF holdings information into the spreadsheet and create formulas in the spreadhseet to provide you with the analysis that you want. If you want some help with that, just let me know. I've done it before for my investment portfolios, budgeting, etc. Hopefully someone else in the group knows a more automated way for this. Cheers! - Mendel

Morningstar.com has an X Ray tool in their portfolio manager that will show the stock percentages of your holdings in Mutual Funds and ETFs.   It is a feature that is available in the Premium Morningstar subscription.  However, they do have a 7 day trial, which might get you started if you don't trade a lot and the funds are somewhat stable in their trading history.   They used to have many tools available on the free platform with registration and perhaps there may be a limited version of the X-Ray but I see a Premium plus icon in my account so it may only now be available for subscribers. It is very detailed and will also show your asset allocation, world allocation as well as the expense you actually are paying in the funds as well as an analysis to the average expenses of the average investor.  It will also send you a monthly report on your investments, kind of like what some advisors do (as they can also use a professional version from Morningstar).

www.fundvisualizer.com   which is powered by Morningstar, will get you the top 10 holdings of each ticker symbol without an account registration.

And finally, if you have a Fidelity account, you can get all holdings from the Quote function at Fidelity.com.  Without logging in, Fidelity only provides the top 10 holdings.

You can look up the percent of holding of each ETF on their websites. Multiply your dollar amount of each ETF by the percent for each the holdings. Sum the values for each company. You now know how much of your money is in each company. Divide each company value by your total investment in the ETFs to get your answer.

John, I am intrigued by your question. ETFs that hold big stocks are typically quite diversified across sectors and industries. Given that, your question never would have to mind.

Second, you say you own many ETFs. I can imagine why anyone. would need to own more that 4-6 ETFs at anyone time, given that most are diversified investments.

About 12 years ago, AAII created a model portfolio made up of just ETFs. Every quarter, they reported to the members on the performance of the model portfolio for years and years. They made changes to the model perhaps only once a year. Eventually,  they abandoned it, on the grounds that they couldn't get it to out-perform the S&P 500 Index. - - - So, an investor (like you) needs to develop a portfolio strategy that is going to out-perform the S&P 500 Index over the long run. If not, why go to the trouble? You might as well own just VOO.
