Michael Kops, Heartland Advisors
The Small Cap Value Landscape:
What’s changed, what hasn't, and how can we take advantage after the large cap euphoria?
Heartland Advisors is a value firm whose investment thesis is guided by the thought leadership of Benjamin Graham. Hartland’s offerings include three mutual funds as well as three strategies for funds management.
Across all offerings, stock picking is a primary focus and understanding the intrinsic value of a company versus its stock price is key to successfully selecting value firms. Heartland has developed 10 principles as the foundation for investment selection. These principles go well beyond the standard valuation ratios and include deep dives into the political and environmental issues that impact the firm's performance and prospects, the firm's management structure and capabilities of the managers, their business strategies and the resulting dynamics of earnings
