Speaker Bio –
Akre grew up in Washington D.C., graduated from Blair Academy and matriculated to American where he started out as a premed student but later switched to BA in English literature. After deciding against going to medical school, Akre started in the securities business in 1968.
In 1989 after 21 years in the securities business at Johnston Lemon & Co. ( a NYSE member firm) Chuck founded his own firm Akre Capital Management. At Johnston Lemon Chuck various held positions as shareholder, director, CEO of the Asset Management Division and director of Research at Johnston, Lemon & Co.
In 1993 Akre operated the firm under the umbrella of Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co. In 2000 he took Akre Capital management private and it became an independent firm again.
Chuck Akre is regarded by many as a “SuperInvestor” and is listed on the website “Dataroma.com” as one of its “SuperInvestors. Mr. Akre has been interviewed by Consuelo Mack’s “Wealthtrack” that is broadcast on PBS.
The Akre Focus Fund Retail has returned 13.9% since inception in August 2009.
