Presentation: 2025 has seen market all over the map. moves up and down, and in quick succession.  Market commentators – the talking heads – pontificate on the way up, panic on the way down.  Take a date we are all familiar with, February 14, Valentine’s Day.  On that date, market indices were climbing ever higher, the S&P 500 closed over 6,100, and NASDAQ over 20,000.  Feeling good, the VIX “anxiety index” reported in at a tepid 14.77.  (For VIX readings under 20.0, the pros advise there is nothing to worry about.) Fast forward through March, when news of tariffs and a stubborn inflation hit the market.  The manic-depressive Mr. Market reacts accordingly.  The first week of April sees the S&P 500 down over a thousand points since Valentine’s Day (at 5070), a 17% decline.  For NASDAQ, the pain is even worse, as it falls into “bearish” territory.  NASDAQ closes down over 4,400 points (at 15,585), a 22% decline.  With apologies to Mel Brooks, VIX closes in “High Anxiety”, a 45.31 reading.  The last time VIX readings were this high was March 2020, at the height of the corona virus pandemic.  In this market, what is the individual investor to do?

Why Attend?  Benefit from the wide-ranging experience of a successful market practitioner.  Learn how a rational investor responds to this recent market turmoil.  Is there opportunity for the contrarian investor?  Now? Or later?  Or has it passed?  Take this opportunity to enjoy an informative evening out in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Speaker: George Conboy is one of Rochester’s finest, having grown up in nearby Webster.  George earned an accounting degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology.  After gaining experience in accounting, George moved to EF Hutton where he spent years on the NYSE trading floor - when that floor was littered with paper.  George joined Brighton Securities in 1988, and now as Chairman, takes pride in the company’s skilled staff and their team approach advising clients.  For many in the Rochester area, George needs no introduction.  He has long been recognized as the go-to guy for local media whenever informed market commentary is needed.  George always provides a well-wrought opinion, drawing from years of study and his rich personal experience.  We are pleased to welcome back this distinguished and engaging speaker to our Rochester chapter.

Great opportunity to hear George's take on things.  The local media has recently honored George as "the smartest man in Rochester."
